Welcome Chef Tod Kawachi
We are pleased to welcome Executive Chef Tod Kawachi to the Joseph Phelps Vineyards Culinary Team.
A Seattle, WA native, Tod Kawachi relocated to California following culinary school to work in the Napa Valley and Beverly Hills, as well as attend the specialized School of American Chefs at Beringer Vineyards. Opportunity then led him to Roy’s Kahana Bar & Grill on Maui as Executive Chef, where he was frequently featured in television spots, including the PBS series: The Great Chefs of Hawaii, local Hawaii television shows, and numerous charity food festivals in Hawaii, the mainland, and Japan.
Chef Tod eventually returned to Napa Valley where he was opening Executive Chef at both BRIX Restaurant and Market Restaurant, fusing the bold flavors of Hawaii, Asia, Europe and America together in his uniquely styled signature cuisine. Tod was then presented with the prestigious career opportunity to culminate all his years of knowledge and experience into a chef instructor teaching position at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Napa Valley, where he was Associate Professor for eight years.
The love of wine and food pairing has captivated Tod’s culinary energies throughout his career, most recently at St. Supery Estate Vineyards & Winery. The creative outlet of preparing wine-first menus and dishes to showcase exceptional wines at their source utilizes his enthusiasm, educational background, and diverse culinary experience, which he now happily brings to Joseph Phelps Vineyards.
We invite you to join us for a Bountiful Table wine and food experience on your next Napa Valley visit and meet Chef Tod along with chefs Matt Borbon and Jeremy Rittenhouse.
