Winemaker Notes The 2010 Insignia has an incredibly inky hue with layers of perfumed plum, dark berries, bergamot, mocha and graphite aromas followed by hints of spice box. The texture on the palate is ultra-concentrated and silky with blackberry flavors and a touch of black pepper, cocoa and curry spices leading to the lush, lingering and focused finish.
Winemaking Data Grapes were hand-picked and sorted to stainless steel tanks for cold soaking, followed by fermentation. Macerations were extended for up to forty days, adding to the wine’s velvety texture and concentrated, intense flavors prior to barrel aging.
Vintage Notes The 2010 growing season experienced earlier bud break than 2009, but flowering and veraison occurred up to two weeks later. A prolonged frost season lasted until the end of May followed by mild early summer temperatures. Veraison was 50% complete by mid-August and warming trends in late August and late September helped to propel ripening. Overall fruit quality was exceptional. Structure, color and fruit expression in the wines are truly balanced and some of the best over the last decade.
95 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous
Musky aromas of currant, tobacco, licorice, dark chocolate, graphite and herbs; an essence of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Utterly plush and thick yet bright on entry, then super-concentrated and seamless in the middle palate, with captivating sweetness leavened by graphite minerality. Really incredible silky grain and palate-staining, gripping length here, with the serious but utterly smooth, perfectly buffered broad tannins extending the fruit. Offers great thickness and density without excess weight, not to mention superb balance and class. A great vintage for Insignia, and destined for a long life in bottle.. Very long, gripping finish. This has opened since I last tasted it in 2016 and is a spectacular drink today. If anything, its outstanding definition and structure became even more apparent with 72 hours in the re-corked bottle. -S.T., May 2020
95 Points - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
A gorgeously intense bouquet of lead pencil shavings, spring flowers, black currants, blackberries, and subtle smoke and foresty aromas jumps from the glass of this full-bodied, rich, concentrated wine with soft tannins, a multidimensional mouthfeel, and a long, rich finish displaying well-integrated acidity, tannin, alcohol and wood. This beauty is one of the top Insignias produced over recent years. It should age easily for 20+ years. (Oct. 2013)
