2018 Pinot Noir, Quarter Moon Vineyard
Winemaker Notes The latest offering from the Quarter Moon Vineyard is deep, dark and brooding with red fruit, candied orange peel and dried herb aromatics followed by tantalizing black cherry, raspberry, anise, savory spice and black tea layers on the palate. A wine of ethereal, nuanced precision, yet it possesses power and structure for long-term aging potential. The 2018 encompasses the vintage’s brilliance from start to pleasing finish.
Winemaking Data A limited-edition bottling showcasing five blocks within our Quarter Moon Vineyard planted mainly to Calera. Clusters were hand-sorted in order to separate the best for a 35% whole cluster fermentation, adding rich spice, texture and structure to the finished wine.
Vintage Notes The 2018 Sonoma Coast growing season was marked by cool, mild weather. The cooler than normal spring delayed budbreak, bloom and veraison by two weeks compared to the previous five years. The mild weather patterns in August and September allowed for excellent overall phenological ripening and development of a complex aroma and flavor profile in the finished wines.

Lots of red fruit now with dark plums and Chinese spices. Full-bodied with density and layers. Really spicy and intense with lots of cloves and green peppers. Solid finish. Drinkable now, but will age beautifully. -JS (May 2021)

The 2018 Pinot Noir Quarter Moon Vineyard, aged 14 months in 50% new French oak, has a medium ruby-purple color and gorgeous scents of crushed blueberries, blood orange, tea leaves, aniseed and loads of amaro-laced red and black berry fruits, bursting with more nuances over time. It's medium-bodied and wonderfully silky and fresh, packed to the gills with spicy flavor layers gently supported by ripe tannins, and it finishes incredibly long and layered. Gorgeous! -EB, Sept, 2020
96 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
A deep, fleshy wine, the 2018 Pinot Noir Quarter Moon Vineyard packs a serious punch. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, licorice and earthy notes all flesh out. The Quarter Moon is the richest of the three Pinots in the range. As such, it will appeal most to readers who like a denser style of Pinot. Even with all of that natural intensity, the 2018 remains bright and focused. It is a terrific example of this great Sonoma vintage. April, 2020

Feral and silky, this elegantly robust wine is well integrated, structured and enduringly complex. Savory components of forest, black tea and cranberry make for an intriguing experience on the palate, with balanced acidity throughout. -VB

The 2018 Pinot Noir Quarter Moon Vineyard comes from a single vineyard on the Sonoma Coast and was 80% destemmed and spent 14 months in 50% new oak. It has more exotic notes of wild strawberries, black raspberries, candied orange, incense, and dried flowers. This beauty is seamless, medium-bodied, has a bright yet integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's a complete, brilliant Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast that will drink well for a decade. - July, 2020
